Collectors collecting everything!!!
===
[00:00:00] Welcome to the multi-verse comic podcast. We are back. We are back for our next season, after our holiday break, when, and we took January off. But we are here in February. And we are going to jump right into the middle of the conversation about collecting and being collectors.
Enjoy. You can sell yourself for a profit on eBay, but then if you have to go back and buy it again, well then get a second job. 'cause whatever money you sold that for, 'cause you thought that was gonna fix something, you failed. You failed. Thank you for joining us. Tough love. I'm just talking about my life.
All right? What I had to learn. So I'm gonna pass it on to everybody else. That's it. That's actually why I bought a shop. I've never been successful at selling stuff, selling like a, like one of my own collection books on eBay or anything. I've never done that. I, I, I figured out very early on right after my divorce, I was like, all right, I'm gonna part with [00:01:00] my giant giant size X-Men, one saved, signed by Chris Claremont and Dave that 'cause I needed X, Y, and Z and, and then bought that sucker when I bought it, that sucker again without the autographs and it had the slab leak.
And lost, you know, shit that in 94 in there. But that's where I was like, you know what? I can't granted from a logic standpoint, all these boxes of comics I have, I don't read all of them every year. And I don't go back through all of them, but you, there is something majestic about walking in there and going, I have no wife anymore.
I have no kids. I have no self-respect, but I've got this comic book. Wow. Got this whole thing right here. And it's all my toys, all my toys. If I, if I, if I started dating someone again or we were gonna move in together, I'd have to deal with this, but. You know, you're saying all of this with this element of despair to your voice, but you know, there's a part of me that is so fucking envious of so, [00:02:00] well, that's, that's why now I'm not gonna get, I wouldn't get married again because I, I, and I wouldn't let her move in.
No, I, let's go to your apartment because I don't wanna wanna change my stuff. I started taking down all my adult pictures out in the, uh, den, you know, three stooges stuff. I started hanging kind. I was like, just embrace who I am. You know, that's. Yeah, that's a, yeah, I, here's, here's my world. I invented new products because my wife wouldn't let me keep my comics out.
I had to go once again. So you don't like the white boxes? Okay. Here's a new fancy box. So no matter, is that okay? Matter? We are collectors. Are we recording now? No. There we go. We are collectors. That's that. That's it. We're a breeder pod. Well, well we, we'll change, you know, you might go from comics to toys, from toys to t-shirts, uh, or God help us.
You got five or six collection streams. You know, MC McFarland keeps repackaging toys. You're like, Ooh, do I want the Wonder Woman in the skinny 1999 box or now his DC classics that you can charge [00:03:00] 29 99? But it's a better skull. So it's just, yeah, it's, it's a funny thing because I quite, a few months ago, I, um, decided no more Funko pops.
Can't do it. I've got the Beanie Babies. The Beanie Babies of the collection world. Yeah, exactly. They're, they're, and I still have Beanie Babies. I've said that for years. Yeah. And I'm like, I just, I can't do this anymore. I just, I need to just, there, there has to be a line. 'cause I, I don't have any place to put the, well, actually I do, but the point is, is that really I don't, and that's it.
But the problem with, with. Funko pops like McFarland toys, like Bowen statues back in the day. Like anything really is that, it feels to me like the designers with these companies, they are pretty plugged in. So they're looking out for somebody like me. Like, well, we we're just gonna have to do better. Just, we'll just get that one.
We're just gonna have to come up [00:04:00] with that one. We're, we're gonna come up with that question. Pop. It's an exclusive. Right. That was the last thing. And it's the easiest one ever. Just a blank face. That's right. We're gonna get that. But that hooks you again. So the, the, so there I was in, uh, Barnes and Noble a couple of days ago and I, I almost yelled, I almost yelled like, you Fast because they've put out it, it, I think it's like an entertainment Earth exclusive.
So why it's sold at Barns Noble. I have no idea. But they had it. It is. Fricking genius. It's Mary Jane Watson in the face it, tiger. You just hit, you know, the, uh, pose? Oh, that, that pose. And it, they've actually, now it's got like a little speech bubble rising above her head that says, face it, tiger. You just hit the jackpot.
And I'm like, okay, because yeah, because my life is incomplete. I need to wake up every morning and the first thing I see is [00:05:00] a, a four or five inch plastic effigy of Mary Jane Watson telling me, you just hit that jackpot tiger. I need that. And, you know, talk about Funko pops. I felt, I feel like they've hit that wall too, but then they, I I, and granted, their marketplace has shrunk.
Yes. The last few years, but now they're going out on that. Hey. We're gonna make these big box with the Wolverine number one Frank Miller behind it. I Allen. And then you and I bought the Alan Scott Greenland that way. So they they are, and, and, and if you follow the history, it's not toys, it's art, man. Well, if's Art, if you follow fun CO's history, there's a documentary on Netflix where it started off with, they, they started off with a big boy Bobblehead.
Yeah. When the resurgent came. And you follow that. Those crafty bastards are definitely sitting around going, how can, how, how can we get this crack out? Absolutely. Where Beanie Babies, didn't she? Oh yeah. I, I, I mean, I'm surprised too. Did you watch the Beanie Baby show? Oh, I did. That lady, that lady that, that was crazy.
That was very, and I [00:06:00] remember that fight because Sandra and the girls. We're into Beanie Babies. Oh yeah. And so I was that poor schmuck in McDonald's line buying 58 Happy Meals. Yeah. So that everybody, you know, that that first year they didn't put the limit on it. It was like, yeah, I'd like 107 Happy Meals, please.
Cool. Great. Make, does this have the purple bear or does this, uh, does this, the walrus, what is this? Wow. You know? And, and, and what I did is I'd chill up the toys or eyes. Feed the crew and take the, and take the, the damn toys. Sure. 'cause that, that's all they were interested in. That's it. And Sandra made a pretty good side business for those two months in Texas where Beanie Babies were.
You know, you would stab each other over, uh, the damn Princess Die Bear, which we still got some of those, but Funko I bet that's worth something. It is, it is. It's, it's in a little jar somewhere. It's 'cause I'm a collector. Yeah, that's what we're talking about. But. You know, Funko would hook me again really hard if they came out with the $6 million man line.
How do they not have have that star? I mean, don't, they could be listening. No, no. I I think they [00:07:00] Starsky and Hutch the A team. Wouldn't you like a little ba baras right there on your desk bar? Um, so I don't, I've never, I've never fallen it preyed to the Funko pops. I'll get one every once in a while. I, I have a, um, I have the, some of the Christmas ones as my like Christmas decor in my office.
Right, right. But that's. I've never fallen prey to them because I'm like, I just can't, I can't make the it. It's too easy to get cluttery with those things. Yes, it's, it's too easy, easy to get clut. So what I think I would do if I went Funko pop. I think I would do those, um, those shelves, the acrylic shelves, they're exactly the Oh yeah.
That they've designed for kind of staggered. Yeah. Like actually they're bat boxes. Mm-Hmm. They're boxes to hold, um, commemorative bats or whatever. Mm-Hmm. And they fit Exactly. They're perfect. So I think I would line my wall with it and just slide them in and have like a solid wall and use it like, it's like it's the wallpaper almost like.
[00:08:00] Mm. Floor to ceiling, all fungo bombs. And because then it's not clutter, it's an installation. Well see, my youngest daughter moved back into the house. Why did you have to put that idea in my head? Jackson? Sorry. Well, because you already got the stuff. That's even better. Damn it. So my youngest daughter moved back.
We're talking about fungo. I'm gonna start selling acrylic shelves out. Yeah, there you go. She, she moved back in, so I was giving her the front room. So I was like, I'm gonna clear up all my funko pops. I put 'em in these boxes and Allie and I were counting 'em. 417. Wow. Four 17. Fricking pops in three different rooms that didn't look cluttered.
Mean adding bookshelves all, I mean, it wasn't like they were sitting on the ground. I went, Jesus Christ, what am I gonna do with these? And there, and I was like, we'll bury 'em with you with the comics, you know? Here you go. That's, we're not, we're not gonna have to buy a casket, right. We're just gonna. Duct tape and Viking funeral.
You've said that before. Oh, just put me in the ground. That's it. And uh, I was like, well make sure the, uh, make sure it's archival bag so I don't leak into the oil, into the water system. 'cause that's right. You know, I don't wanna pay for concrete vault. No. But, uh, no, but there's the special [00:09:00] BCW bands made for that.
Yeah, that's it. But you'll, you'll have a box made by then. It'll be absolutely. Um, perfect for your triptan nerd Bauer. Yeah, that's right. Um. But no, they are very clever. I mean, I, I, it's not, it's not my, it doesn't tickle my fancy, but I can absolutely see that whoever came up with this one was brilliant.
They, they're doing these larger ones, uh, where it's like a movie poster. Yes. And so Barn Noble and for d, old Disney movies. So they've got like the old style one sheets for Disney movies for the pop in front. And I'm like, actually, if you're a Disney fan, even if you're not a toy fan, that actually looks pretty sharp.
Well, the Robinhood stuff we have up front, yeah, I'm, I don't even like pops. And I'm like, Hmm, I kind of want the Robinhood ones. They're so great. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. It, yeah, it's, yeah, they have definitely done a, a. A good job. You know, when you, when you saw the Golden Girls Yes. As [00:10:00] license, you knew that they, they were exploring every license they could get, but they've done a good job of, you don't feel as dirty buying a pop.
What? No, you, you, you know what I mean? Where I know exactly what you mean. Well, 'cause every time I buy, you know, my action figures, then it start keep in the box. I take 'em out. Do I do this? Do I do that? Mm-Hmm. And, and there is that, you know, I've bought two or whatever, but these, you know, fungal pops are a little box.
Yeah. Put a little plastic shell on it. It could be if I, if I leave my McFarland Justice League movie, justice League figures out on display. No one's gonna compliment me except the three of y'all if you come to the house. But if I have fun co pops and it becomes a conversation piece. Yeah. Because you know if, if you're major league baseball, NFL movie, someone's like, oh, hey, that's, that's kind of cute.
And they forgive the cartoonish nature of Yes, the artwork. 'cause it's not a one for one, one for one reproduction. No, not at all. But [00:11:00] you could, once again at my job, I could have a bobblehead on my desk. And it's perfectly fine if I've got, you know, Ben Affleck bat Fleck and, uh, you know, MoMA's Aquaman and got them wrestling on the desk.
I have to go talk to HR for 30 minutes to find out if I'm doing all right. So, so I can't leave a stack of comic books on my, you know, no, it's, they work, but it, it is, like I said, they, they, they're very clever because Yeah, it's. It's a, it becomes a conversation piece. And because the range covers sports and movies and comics and this and that and the other, you know, you, and they're so part of the, you know, the sort of pop culture world now, you know, nobody bats an eyelid.
I think if you, if certainly the, the young man behind the counter at Barn Noble didn't. Didn't blink, didn't pause for a second, you know, but, but it is interesting how their marketplace has shrunk. 'cause you, you remember five [00:12:00] years ago, you go to Walmart in the toy aisle, there's a big chunk. Now it's the, now it's the eight foot, or Yeah.
Four foot specialty section in the music. And, you know, I, I've wondered if it took a turn because a glut in the market or because they seem to bounce back a little bit. Mm-Hmm. They've changed up. I mean, any good company's gonna adapt right to the. Customer base. I think they, I think they just adjusted down their, their manufacturing.
It's, people still love 'em. People still come in here all the time. Like their go-to thing is You pops. Yeah, we got pops. Yeah. And, uh, and for y'all's, y'all's that couldn't see it, Jason rolled his eyes because, because we have this discussion at the shop. Slight shortness of breath. I think it's, listen, I, I thought it's the beanie babies of, of our age.
Yeah. For a long time. And. We have a wall of them and then people that come in, they're like, oh, you don't have much of a selection. I'm like, are you kidding? I've got a wall [00:13:00] of pops that's right here. That's it though. The only thing is profitability's not great. Yeah. Like we don't get a good discount. So I've got a wall crap that I don't make much money on that somebody might like and might not.
And we're always gambling on are there enough people who like the freaking golden girls to make it worth buying the dang thing. So Yeah. Yeah. Don't love Bobs from a sales perspective. Yeah, sure. Yeah. Now here's what I admire. I admire their, uh, their business perspective. So they had this concept and their, their motto as a company, you know what their know what that is.
No. Uh, everyone's a fan of something. Right? Okay. Everyone's a fan of something and it's brilliant. It's the whole, I, I've not used that motto, but I've applied that motto. Oh yeah. Like here and everything that I do, the multiverse. It's because it's an all-encompassing thing. I love the name of the multiverse.
I don't want change it. I don't wanna change it because it's, and that is true. I that's, it's funny we brought that up. I was, um, [00:14:00] with my sister and two of her friends this morning before I got here. They wanted their, their golden retrievers to meet and play my mom's backyard since the house was empty.
We're standing out there talking and talking about the shop and her, her, these are friends that she's known since middle school and. One of 'em, a band director, the other one, she runs her own chocolate cake business thing out in Haslet and talked about the podcast and they go, what are you talking about?
What are you talking about? I said, why don't we just talk about these things? And I said, because what was your first comic? Or what was the thing that made you know you were a geek? What moment? Right. And Justin looking goes, when your sister introduced me to Timothy Zahn, star Wars Air, the Empire back then, and then his wife.
When Justin introduced me to Star Trek Next Generation. So let's say everyone's a fan of something and that's Yes, absolutely. That's that, that we do, we live that here, um, every day. No, that's fine. Some, some people are fans of Archers, [00:15:00] some people are fan of Redheaded Warrior and, but princesses and, but this is the thing.
It's not Red SANEs. Um, but it's, you know. I, I, it's, it's a strange thing in so much that this sort of nerd stuff kind of sits in its own like little pocket reality, but it's every bit as valid and legitimate, I think to anyone who is a voracious, uh, follower of a sports team. Yes. Or a voracious reader of a certain author's work or, you know.
We'll go, you know, on global trips to see every Monet that's on public display in the world, you know, this kind of stuff. Um, it's just that I think ours is maybe a little cheaper, a little more accessible, less threatening, I don't know. But also when you're touching that in, that smarter in that theory.
Old [00:16:00] sports fans are gonna be like, there we go. There, it's right there. But really that's the com deeper thought here. That's the commonality of links. All of us. Everyone's a fan of something. That's right. And if everyone realized that they could talk about anything in these, you know, I may not be a hockey fan, but I can appreciate the fan.
Your passion. Your passion for this. Absolutely. That. The other, you may not enjoy Spider-Man, but yeah. You, you understand our passion for this, and that's right. If you could craft a whole store that comes, all of that, I guess that's called the internet. Um, but, you know, a physical location where you could, well, I found, I found a great deal of freedom in that.
I, I've, uh, I, I changed. I'm not a big sports fan. Like I, I like cowboys and I'll, I'll, I, I got hooked on the, the, uh, all the playoff stuff with the Rangers this year. Yeah, my kid's at ou, so I'm watching all that stuff now. But it's not like my diehard, every Saturday I'm watching, you know, college football.
I, I just don't do, [00:17:00] I'm not that guy. And, uh, I'm not, I don't have, I literally don't have a single jersey or shirt. I actually think it's weird to wear another dude's name on your back. Um, so yeah, I always have. Okay. Um, but I have, uh, but I have a great large number of superhero t-shirts, and at some point I.
Um, I just stopped pretending I like sports. Yeah. And I was like, uh, because it makes you feel like an adult. Yeah. If you like sports, you're an adult, but if you're walking around in a Captain America Shield, t-shirt, you're patriotic that, or you might be homeless that there's a, that's one of those. But I get what you're talking about.
Yeah. So even work stuff like homeless. Why was that? You good to, I hand that stuff out to shelters and things like that. Is Oh, is that where those shirts go? Well, some of them, you know, that's what shelters, [00:18:00] you know, are you looking or you wanna go Perus through there? Is that where all the graffiti shirts went?
That's Steven got a secret spot. He said, he says, uh, I've gotta go. This is fun. He said he had a secret source for graffiti shirts. Now No, but there, there, but there is, there is a certain, it's changed now. It's, it's changed in the last 20 years, but there was a certain acceptability to wearing a sports memorabilia.
Yeah. And if you were in your, if you were over eight wearing a superhero shirt, there was something wrong with you. Oh, man. Look, look, I, yeah, I, trust me. I know. Oh, I, I still got a limp from. Seventh grade beating over a Spider-Man comic. So that's, I I I, I grew up in a world where, you know, the, if, if you weren't in a school uniform, you were wearing the shirt of whatever football team, British football, uh, you know, tickled your fancy.
And there's me walking around with a T-shirt that says, who are you gonna call? [00:19:00] Uh, yeah, that was, that was a fun summer.
But, um, no, I, but I, I do, I, I admire the, the, the cleverness in the, in the Funko, um, sort of the, the Funko design. Um, and, and I know that despite, you know, my proclamation, my protestations actually, ah, no more. No, I can't just, yeah, they've got, like this whole, uh, they've got, they're doing another series of, uh, Deadpools.
That's my, actually my favorite Yeah. Is when they do Deadpool, like ballerina, Deadpool Clown Deadpool. Um, Roto-Rooter Deadpool. It is just because I, I find that funny. It. It tickles me to see those and so I see the latest set. I think one of them is like beauty pageant, Deadpool. Of course I'm gonna have to, it's Deadpool in the pink dress with the wig and the crown and all this kinda, I think there's Bavarian pretzel maker [00:20:00] Deadpool.
Why the hell not? I mean, you've gotta do it. And confession time. I have a Deadpool. Uh, that is on my bookshelf. Uh, and, and clutter may come, and clutter may go, but this one will always remain because it is a life-size squirrel pool. Ah, and that, and it's flocked. Oh, there we go. And so it's just this perfect squirrel, um, which I can say here, but I can't say that in my house.
'cause my dog's like, what? S Um, and, and he's head Is it a it's a pop. It's a funko pop. It's about this big. It's probably exclusive, wasn't it? It's still in the box. No, no, I took it. No, no, no. I took it out. I'm it's squat. You've gotta do something with the dust. It's the only thing he does in the house.
It's the only thing I does. A little can of air does that little Exactly. Fresher around the neck. Well, you know, and you pink its head 'cause you know it's marvelous. So it's gotta be a bubble head. Yeah. 'cause they can't have non-verbal head, uh, Marvel. Fun cos why is that? [00:21:00] Um, be, it has to do with action figure licensing, I think.
I think that's where it began. And now I, I don't know, but that's why Marvels are bubble heads, which I like even more because again, I've got squirrel pool and I punk and his head kind of does this thing from side to side. And I, I, I get It's like a fidget spinner. I get it. Exactly. I get a giggle out of it.
And uh, you know, when, when I moved back to the states, 'cause they really don't have them in England since seven years ago. God, I've amassed a lot of crap in seven years. Um. I, you know, Funko, I'm not gonna get involved in that. Absolutely not gonna get involved in that. And I was at Target and they had, you know, the Jumbo pops?
Yeah. The large ones. And it was Ben Grim. I was like, see? And I was with my wife at the time and she's like, you know you're gonna have, because, you know, I love the thing, old blue eyes. So anyway, yeah, there you go. You know, [00:22:00] they, they, they would hook me. I would, I would probably spend 200 bucks if they had.
Ben Grim around a table playing poker with Nick Fur. I mean, you know, like, oh, man, because you're mad. There's, you could sell them individually. Yeah, put 'em together. Put together like table put. Because, because in Marvel 2 0 1, I always enjoyed the issues where something interrupted. Ben and Nick Fury.
Playing poker with, you know, a couple other randos and dumb dumb and, uh, oh, I want the, uh, we, we don't have enough of that anymore in the comments that are fun. No, I, okay, so here we go. So, we'll, we'll end the, the, the funko chat with our wishlist. I want a Funko pop, and it's from that issue of Marvel two in one.
Where the thing has just been beaten within an inch of his life. I think it was by Gladiator. Oh, it it was. It was an annual seven. And then the next issue, he was in the hospital. He's in the hospital issue 95. Sandman comes and visits him. And that's so all hell is breaking loose in the hospital because all the villains are like, the thing is in the hospital now we can kill him.
'cause why wouldn't you? It's a good way [00:23:00] to spend a Saturday afternoon. Yeah. Either that or supports mill, but, but you know, he's still the thing. Oh, I know. Yeah, I know, I know. He's men of rocks. So. And also we're about to find out how many Millwall supporters listening to this podcast because Yes, that was a slight, you're as bad as Chelsea.
Um, and, uh, Roland, QPR. And, uh, yeah. So all hell's breaking loose in the hospital and it's, you know, it's like the mad thinker is like one of the villains will get through the blockade. One of his gram's doom is imminent and it turns out that the villain is, uh. Flint. Sandman? No. What's his real name? Oh, Marco Flint.
Marco Flint. Flint. Marco. Something like that. And he, he shows up with beer. Yeah. Six pack of beer and a box of scars. And, uh, I want that pop. I want Sandman sitting next to, uh, in the bed visit Ben Groom visiting Ben, if you were sick, if you were in the hospital, that would cheer you up? I would cheer me up.
I'd put myself in the hospital to get one of those, the pop or to see someone turn to sand, come [00:24:00] visit you. Because I, I would don't, I would probably think I was on hallucinogens if I saw someone coming up out of the ground with a six pack of beer. No, I don't. Turning from sand into solid that, no.
Probably do more damage than, uh, no mushrooms as beating, I just took from the cosmic champion. I just wait till it's mobile. Yeah. But thinking about that issue of all the cosmic games to play. Yes. You know, I can create anything. I'm going to. Because Rocky four was big at that point in time. Mm-Hmm. That's the issue, is I'm gonna create a boxing ring in space.
Exactly. And bring all the Sea list, Marvel Strongmen in there and beat them to a ball. Why not? I, Hey. And that, and that, you know, that was before the Wolverine heyday. Even though he was in the universe. Yes. Because now Wolverine would've just chomped everybody up instead of needing the, because you know That's true.
I digress. That's, that's what we did. We wrapped up the pop. What would you know? Cause us more? No, he said with his wishlist. What? Yeah. If you, if, if you could commission [00:25:00] Fundco to make whatever pop that you want them to make, what would you commission them to make? That's tough because like I said, I would love that Ben Grim thing, but because I know you won't, do you?
No, I do. I know exactly what you want. What do you think you want? Um, it, it would be, again, it would be a multi-part thing like the, uh, the schwar table and it would be the Justice Society. And each one comes with a piece of the round table. The table that's from that, that would be good. But you know, I, I'll one up that go miracle, man.
I don't believe that. I thought that, that, that is one of, for me, be because that. Uh, that's been a almost 35 year journey to finish a story. Sure. And I know what you're doing, by the way, and I, I've given up on that. No, you, I, I, I, [00:26:00] I got you to watch, I got you to watch, uh, you know, lower deck. Lower deck. I had to pick, I had to pick the one.
I'm not gonna, you're trying to be able to read Miracle Man. He wants, he wants me to read Miracle Command and I won't until it's all over. 'cause I wanna read it all in one go. Well then well then great. This issue wrapped up. Oh shit. Really gaining and then so now the dark age is supposed to start. So you got, oh, she's not over yet.
Yeah, no, you've got a complete, you gotta complete. It's not done yet. But, but the, the thing is that, that character, my, my buddy Jeff and I just had this conversation the other day when I first discovered in 85 through Jeff, it was such a Oh crap moment. You hadn't seen a character done like that. I, I wasn't as worldly in the comics world as I'm now where now that's kind of a dime or dozen.
But it holds such a sentimental part in my heart, because every 10 years it's like the collector world's trying to do away with it. Mm-Hmm. Like, you know, yeah, okay. You, you, you can't, you know, we have the rights. We don't have the rights. It's such a good [00:27:00] quality character, even though now, you know, sometimes story doesn't hold up.
And when you learn about Alan's. Fights behind the scene and all that, that may turn up. But if you just read this, you're like, oh God, I've never saw this before. When McFarland had that Man of Miracles, action figure, I bought that. Right? Because that was the closest I was ever gonna get to a miracle man.
Anything. 'cause I know I'm ne I can get a judge dread figure. Yes. That's my bracelet. I, I wouldn't mind an alec, I wouldn't mind a push button. Oh, oh yeah. I I wouldn't mind that. I wouldn't mind a big bin, axle push button. Yeah. I wouldn't mind a big bin, uh, from Warrior. Uh, yes, I would love the Justice Society because that, that is my jam.
But if, if you had to look at me and go, we'll do whatever. I have a better chance of finding the justice society out in the wild than I will ever find true. I bought a Miracle Man mini Lego figure. That they customized at a convention. Oh wow. Okay. I bought that and, and they had like 10 of 'em and new one knew, [00:28:00] no one knew what it was.
I was like, I'll take this one. It's like, you know who this? I absolutely know who that is. I'll go buy two of 'em. One's Mar Miracle Man, and one's Marvel man. And I can tell you the whole story. Why? There you go. Yes. There's no, I gave up on you finishing up on that one day. I hope you'll read it all and we'll talk about it, but I'm more excited you watch lower decks than I'll ever.
Well, hope springs a turn. It does. And what about you, sir? Oh gosh. I, uh, this might exist. Actually, I don't know. I, I was trying to find a, the, uh, the, like the statue I wanted of this, and I haven't found it yet either. Um, the, uh, the end of Avengers end game, uh, captain America has the hammer and the shield.
Mm-Hmm. And he's doing the crazy, like, uh, amplify the thing off the shield deal and he. Um, yeah, that one, uh, a, a Captain America Hammer and Shield. I think they have fun. Those, I, I think they, yeah, that's what I [00:29:00] want. But, but a Funko pop. That's what you funko pop. I would do that. The other one I had in mind was the, um, an Alex Ross sort of image, uh, Superman flying the Christmas tree in.
Yeah, I, I would, because I, I use my pops for Christmas decorations, so I have like the. Bruce Wayne in his, in his little nightcap. Yes. Oh yeah, absolutely. So, um, I I would, I I'm missing a superman flying in the Christmas tree. That'd be cool. Years ago, DC made up figure line based off Alex Ross's. Did you happen to get any of those or the Superman?
That that's what we ought to find Jason. There you go out in the wild and find that, because I have them, most of them, they did a good job. They, they did GC direct. Yes. But that, that Superman won. Is particularly clean. Yeah, it is. That's good. It, uh, short of using a Christopher, 'cause once again, Christopher Reeves iconic.
Yeah. But that Alec Ross one I think is, is as [00:30:00] iconic. I struggle to find a Superman statue or actually figure that I like because they have, um, like they'll do the statues a lot of times with the red eyes and I'm like, that's not right. And then they'll do, they won't get a, the face, like the face will be wonky.
It won't be quite right. There's a Iron Studios one that we ordered actually. And we're now at, oh, I don't know, eight months late from Diamond. Um, is that all, just eight, eight months late. But it is the best I've ever seen. I went to Iron Studios site and I was like, I'm just gonna buy from these guys. Um, and, uh, it says it's still coming.
So apparently the delays on Iron Studios, but it's, it's the best one I've seen. It's superman. Um, flying and he's, um, he's flying with Lois Lane, like holding her and you know, it's kind of got the wind swept look with their clothes Right. And stuff. And they do this, um, perspective where, you know, Superman and Lois are, are big, but the daily planet below them is basically the base.
Right. And it's [00:31:00] smaller because of perspective. And it, it's a, it's the best statue I've ever seen of Superman in, in my, in my perspective. And I've got a few, like, there's the statue that Mm-Hmm. That sits up. In the shop, like our mascot, the Warner Warner Brothers acquisition. Yeah. The Warner Brothers one.
Uh, some, there's a guy that keeps trying to buy it from me and he goes, I don't know man, it's uh, it's 850 bucks. And I was like, yep, it is. He goes, you think it'll get 850 bucks? And I said, well, I price it 850 bucks because that's what it takes for me to get rid of it. 'cause I love that thing. I'm gonna hold onto it until I get it.
850 bucks. There you go. And, and that, that figure holds us. Specific or a statue hold specifically nostalgia for me. 'cause that was our first buying run. It's pretty fun. Where, where he just walked in and was like, Hey, what are you doing? Nothing. I wanna go over here. And I expected, you know, first off we're driving around a part of town where I was like, I used to have a rent center customer out here.
We, and I saw the house. I was like, is he dead? Are we, am I repoing his stuff? 'cause there's some things that he didn't [00:32:00] pay for. I may, I may be calling the Bedford location and going, Hey, put my name on the wall buddy. I've got, you've got, I've got this. It's already charged off, but. Walking around there, they, they're like, oh yeah, we got a comic or two and we kicked open this plastic tub.
I was like, oh, nothing but Silver Age, Superman stuff, and what are we gonna do with this? Yeah. And, and you know, when we found that Warner bro, and, and they negotiated hard. They did. And they, they, they were, and I, I paid way more than I, than I should have for that. But I made you. Three times what you spin on it.
Oh no, a hundred percent. That, that was a hundred percent. That was our first, uh, that was our first buying trip. Well it was the first, it was the first time we had like something unique like in the shop. Like something. 'cause we, we get baggage issues, but nothing like, no. A crazy stat silverish silver age collection.
You know? That was cool. That was, that was fun. Um, that was, that was fun. And then the, the other big [00:33:00] collection. Where the guy had Oh yeah. We only buy big stuff from dead people, apparently. Yeah. Yeah. That's, that's the one where it spent half a year in my house and, uh, yeah. Took my car, your truck, and, um, um, involving many people coming to my house, try to process it.
Catalog you were part of that. I was, that was, I don't even know how many comics. 20,000 maybe. I don't know. Yeah. It, I mean, it was, it was, uh, 60. It was a lot. Six 60 short boxes, I think. Yeah. So there was, there was, and, and once again brought to the, you know, you went through the first, okay, here's wave one keys, here's the others.
Yeah. And then it's finally, Hey, what's our postman doing? He likes collecting comics. Country, come over, you got more free time. Come pick this stuff up and get it in the house. That's right. Um, no, those are, those buying trips are fun. And that's, uh, I, uh, I, I wish I could, it's, it's weird. There's some [00:34:00] people, like some of the other shops, they just, I don't know what they're doing to like get these leads, but they end up with crazy leads.
Sure. Um, on collections and, I mean, we don't have any room for anything right now. Yeah. We're, we're maxed out. But I would, uh, um, I think by May I'll have, by May I'll have shelves in here for us, or like the drawers in here. Okay. Yeah, I wish I had brought it. I have a prototype of the, of the final like.
Little thing with the drawers that Oh, okay. Fit with the boxes and all that. Now, now kids, what we're talking about is organizing the store. It's, I know it's a little tough. Uh, yeah. We, we, we jumped off, went a different route. We are, we are trying to get the long boxes off the long white tables that we have, and we're trying to put 'em in basically nice cubicles where you can slide things in and out and people don't step on each other when they're.
This is true. Organization's key. Yeah. Stay tuned. You can buy 'em from us [00:35:00] later. That's right. Health and safety. And I, I would, I would walk the microphone around the store and show it to you, but Steve's informed me there's no camera on this microphone, so it's all pointless. But if you want a YouTube channel, put it in the comments below and we'll start, uh, we'll start for stop.
And that will be the Jason Scott show. Oh, that's, I'll just put, we'll just put a Deadpool mask on you. Oh, okay. Every. E every, every time just be something different. I'm pretty sure. Like, so let's, let's speculate on this because I don't know the reasons for the no camera thing. I think it's because you have an MI six past and you don't want to be on camera because people find I stop you right there to your own safety.
That's it. You know, they can recognize voices now too. What makes you think this is my real voice? That's true. Right? Well, this was fun. Yeah. This, uh, we're gonna change subjects real fast. Yeah. There you go. Moving on. I think that wraps this episode.
There you go. Yeah. Thanks to be back. [00:36:00] Yeah, it's good. We're back talking about Funko pops this time. I know, right? We didn't know. We, we didn't even know that we were, that came outta nowhere. Yeah. We were gonna talk about the inner workings of, uh, diamonds return policy and what they do with damages, but we'll save that for another time.
That'd that bring you lawyers?
