November Previews

[00:00:00] You're listening to the multi-verse comic podcast today november previews
So we're back. We are, we're back.
We're gonna do previews here. You wanna start with DC DC connect. Issue number 42. November, 2023, talking about the upcoming floppies. Yes. Hooks. Coming out in January on the cover. A beautiful Superman action Comics 10 61, written by Jason Aaron, drawn by John Thas. Well, we, we were just talking off, off air about the Batman 4 28.
Reprints Robin lives where they, they are showing the alternate material from the one 800 calls back in the Yes, back in the day to kill off old Jason Todd. We're gonna see what would've happen if he lived and became Red Hood sooner, or does, I think he's just still rocking. Does this, does this mean we don't get Tim Drake?
'cause I [00:01:00] mean, if I miss, if I'm gonna have to miss out on Tim Drake, then I, I'd like to see something dropped heavy on Mr. Todd because I, I like Tim. So for those of you listening to this, who may not know what is being discussed, although it's highly unlikely, um, many, many moons ago, 35 years, give or take, I think, um, there was a four-part story in Batman called a Death in the Family, Pre-Internet pre spoilers.
And the end of issue two, or the end of part two, I should say, ended with Robin, uh, Jason, Todd, Robin being in a very precarious situation, put in put there by the Joker and there was a big explosion. He thing, anything. And yeah, okay, say I'm close. And you didn't know whether he was gonna live or die.
And those [00:02:00] clever buggers at DC put forth a phone number to say, if you want him to live, call this number. And if you want him to die, call that number. And that's how the story would continue. And I, under, from what I understand, it was like, what overwhelmingly to kill him. I think that's what they said. I, I've heard Danielle O'Neill tell the story that through a good part of the night, it jumped back and forth and then at a point in time it slid heavily in favor of.
Jason being killed. Now, a little back history on this was that he had two versions of Jason Todd running around the DC Universe. Pre-crisis. Post-crisis, pre-crisis. He was a clone of Dick Grayson. Another, another kid that Bruce adopted as his parents got killed. And he even showed up in the Titans and was a great wholesome milk drinking old American lad, all American lad.[00:03:00]
And then after crisis, we had Batman, year one. Mm-Hmm, . We went through that great story. Yep. Had year two, eh, eh, but then they decided to reintroduce Jason Todd, and they made him a orphan juvenile delinquent, and they made his personality a little more rebellious. Whereas the other Jason, the pre-crisis was not right.
And they kind of wrote him in a way that you just didn't, you didn't like him. People were not gravitating towards him. So they cooked up this idea and it, and it sounded like Danielle O'Neal, it was really easy for him to off the kid because they couldn't, they couldn't readjust. You know, Dick Grayson was now a night wing, and that was much more successful.
They couldn't go backwards, but they knew Batman needed a partner. So that's that age old [00:04:00] question, does Batman need a partner? Yeah, but then that's how we got, you know, that's how we got Tim Drake. But that's not what the gist of this reprint is. No, this is. Jason survives as they had written back in 1988 and like, I just made the joke.
Does that mean we wait for him to become red hood later in that continuity? And we, do we not get Tim Drake? Is he less of a, less of a jackass because he's got survive getting blown to bits? I don't know. I mean, I kind of wonder like if this, if, if this issue, which is on sale December 12th, if this issue was a huge success, would DC consider doing like, well there's a multiverse opportunity here and I could revisit it.
He know, I mean, Jim Starling's still with us. Did he have a, you know, does he have a story idea that he could have, I dunno, fleshed out, but [00:05:00] I'm very, I actually am interested in this one. Oh, yeah, yeah. I, I, I would pick this up. They, they, they hooked me with that. With that, what could have been, what could have been, I do like the what ifs.
Yeah. Yeah, they don't have, what if in DC what do they have instead else? World else. lsw. Thank you. Gotham by Gaslight. And I can't believe I forgot that. Greatness. It's all right. Love it. We've been, we've been drinking. Okay. So we've done one page. There you go. , that took what, three hours? Something like that.
Okay. So Robin, 4 28 reprint. Looks good. The there's a big section on Superman, 10 61. It's a sort of a fresh start, sort of a new arc and new creative team with Jason Aaron showing up as the writer. Yep. Which is exciting. We like Jason Aaron.
That's where you'll edit in the sound of crickets because there was no reaction. Yeah, there's no reaction there. There's nothing. Didn't say nothing. No. Jason Aaron's a very good writer.[00:06:00] He, unfortunately, I think he kind of suffers from the same melody that that Bendis does, where when he's been kind of drawing from the same character base for too long.
'cause, you know, his thought was wonderful. His Avengers run, not so much and, and just in my opinion, so we'll see what he does with his defection to the distinguished competition. But from what I understand, this is not an ongoing gig. No, no, no. They're doing there's a, there's a initiative or something that these gonna be doing it for 2024 and this is, this is gonna be like a four part story or a six part story or something like that.
And then I think somebody else is coming on. To do one. And then I think, I think actually Joshua Williams. Williams, I think. So the Superman writer, he's coming on and he's gonna do, it's all leading into this brainiac thing, queen [00:07:00] brainiac. So there's a female brainiac, which means boys and girls, that if you happen to have a copy of the acom, uh, PVC statue of the female brainiac watch for the prices of that to suddenly go through the roof because we're actually going to get a female brainiac.
Nice. I only know that because I have one, so it caught my eye when I was reading about it. I was like, oh, okay. I'm so, but yeah, it could be fun. I'll say I'm interested in this. Trinity special? Yeah. A little bit. Absolutely. Tom King from there. Well, it's, I, I'm So who is she? She is one woman's daughter in the future where John Kent is Superman Prime and Damien is Batman.
Okay. She was in an annual, was it an annual what show versus the issue? 800 of Wonder Woman. Yes. She was a backup there. Yep. And part of her story is gonna tie [00:08:00] into what's going on with Wonder Woman right now. 'cause she's got the black lasso, which you can see, see the drawing Now she's got the black lasso, the lasso of lies.
And I, I will tell you, I'm, I'm always a fan of when Damien and Jonathan Kent get together and interact, they, they, that chemistry is fun. Oh, super stunts was, was, was a hoot. I'd enjoy that. What, what I'm curious about, and I see it over on the next page, Titans Beast World. Mm-Hmm. Where Command Waller now is in the midst of putting her grand plan into place.
Yep. After the end of what s Infinite crisis or whatever where she's putting together her own interventional team. Right. Which I think is a, kind of a little beyond Amanda's scope. I mean, working with criminals is one thing, but I, I kind of wanna see, this is supposed to be the crux of Donna DC is her running around deciding which.
Heroes are worthy, or she's worthy not, from what I understand, her agenda is she's, [00:09:00] she's had enough of there being metahumans. She wants to thin the herd. Yeah. If not, take it out altogether. And there is a new suicide squad book coming out called I think it's Suicide Squad Dream Team. wHich will be an ongoing and yeah, I mean they're sort of, they're kind of really going outta their way to, to, to say Amanda Waller is the big bad, where I kind of always liked that she was she wasn't sort of designated.
Yeah. Big badge. She was just, well, I mean, she's not a particularly nice person, but she's got a, she doesn't have a particularly nice job. Well, she was patriotic. Yeah. You know, she was in the, she was out in the outskirts dealing with the Scum of the Earth villain, that kind of thing. That, that was fun.
She's a. She's a tough broad, as they would've said back in the day, but dare say now, and I've skipped ahead 'cause I'm really am looking forward to night wing one 10 with the covers [00:10:00] hawking, the, the cat memes and some of the other I I really oh, we skipped a whole bunch of stuff. I, well I just jumped over there.
I saw that. I'm just commenting on that now 'cause I really am looking forward to that cover. I, I just, I mean, I love, I love the current night wing and this whole, you know, screaming at the other cat. Yeah. Cat. That, that's, that's fun. Cat just pushes the Yeah, that's fun thing off the, but I, I will go back on track.
There's so this beast world thing takes, takes up quite a bit. So there's some dedicated books. It's basically the Titan storyline. Like when you started reading Titans. Mm-Hmm. It was leading up. Yeah. It was a hundred percent leading up to it. So I did notice on the first one, Lex Luther's on in this suicide squad.
Yes. Him in his jumpsuit right there it looks like. Yeah. So that might be fun. LEx Luther in a suicide squad, Lex Luther and Peacemaker. Are you guys reading the justice League Godzilla Kong thing? No, no. [00:11:00] I thumbed through the first one. And since you're the Superman expert, I wanna make sure that I'm confirming the timeline.
Is this, when Clark is trying to ask Lois to marry him and they showed up 'cause it looked like he's getting ready to get down on one knee and it treat, it treats it like it's in the past a little bit. So I didn't know if this was the Superman's Ner to marry him and he has to go off and deal with these beasts or I, I need, I need to read it and pay more attention to it.
I, I haven't read it because as a Superman guy, I kind of think Superman flies up. Grabs monster, throws them into space and we're done. Like this seems like a really short series to me, but it's Dragon Hot for some reason. Three panels and it's done. That's right. This is like a Sunday morning cartoon. It's not a whole, it's not whole thing.
What was the giant ape or was it a monkey in suit? Was it Tetano? Yeah, Titan. Yeah. Yeah. He always had the ano Brian. Yeah, [00:12:00] ano problem. That's, that's true. You think he would have some tips on how to deal with colon? Well, you what? I think also straight out, you know, Superman turning into a murderer by throwing them into space.
You know, he could fly 'em to Gorilla City or something and let they're animals. I mean, that's not murder. I mean, I don't know. I mean, oh boy. We're in trouble now. Oh, gotcha. Trouble. Yeah. We have to edit that out. If someone's attacking, if there's an animal attacking you all. Life is precious and we love all living.
So moving on. Goodness, arrow. Okay, so what's going on with this? Batman thing. Oh, the split personality . Okay. This guy drove me nuts in one of the storylines. The he was in RIP no, the most recent one. The, um, the one where he was fighting against the robot thing. Fail safe. Fail safe. I was going back to when Grant Morrison dug this guy out the first time.
Yeah. Once again, I wasn't stoned or I Okay. So I, I actually really like [00:13:00] the whole zu in our premise. I like what Morrison did. And I was a little disappointed that Chip Sadowski was, 'cause he kind of jumps on this right from the start of his run. Mm-Hmm. only to find out that this is actually going to be.
Kind of a stalwart, I guess, throughout his run, which okay. But I, I, I like the ridiculousness of this. You know, it's, it's, it's the Batman that Batman created when Batman is been psychologically attacked, compromised or something. He's been compromised. Yeah. So he rever, you know, he spent, what was it, a, a month in the, in that you know, the death room or whatever it is that he could, you know, get this backup personality.
And I mean, it's all very Ian. There you go, boys and girls. There's, there's one for you. Look that one up. And it's, it is like this homemade costume that looks really garish and is terrible. It's the worst. It's so, and, and I'll tell you, I guess [00:14:00] I'm the comic book shop's best customer from the standpoint is I have all of these chip stories.
Never had, like the first four. I can't tell you what's going on now because I've gotten so frustrated. I mean, I, I, I, I like this. Dare de Yeah. But, but. I, I, I, and there's something, but I, I'm, I'm not interested in a Broke Bruce Wayne, even though his broke is different than yours and my broke, it drives me.
It does drive me nuts. We have had quite a bit of that. Yeah. And, and, and granted his broke, Bruce Wayne means his, his, his little hideaway only has 14 bedrooms instead of 40. So, and I've seen the apartment, but it's, you know, it, it's still just in Yeah, but it's still measured. But it's, I do need to sit down and read this one.
'cause I, I pick it up every, every month and I thumbed through it and I'm like, ah, even, I'm sorry, Catwoman Wars. I don't, I, I can't tell you what went on with that. Was she, was she running around with Red Hood? Was it, did they, did they did. That's a whole show, I think. Oh, I, you know, [00:15:00] but it wasn't bad. I, I, I enjoyed the Go War thing.
I thought that was kind of, Hey, it was nice that there was a crossover. Where each part of that crossover actually had a stake in the game. Made sense. Well, just, just was relevant. I mean, come on guys. How many times have you followed a crossover and come to the end of it and realized I could have picked up about half those books?
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I didn't need those at all. I mean, I think we actually talked about that in a previous podcast. Yeah. Talk about the fact that final credit, buying that frigging red hoods, because nobody buys red hood. Right. Just one. Fleeing comment because again, I I I, I do enjoy the whole zura INR idea.
Do you play the, the video game Batman Arkham Night? One of the Batman costumes that you can select is the Zu INR outfit. Yes. And I'm actually revisiting that game at moment. Oh, sorry. I get to that point and I'm running around goth and dressed as zuno. And you think it's ridiculous. [00:16:00] Play Batman in that costume and my wife comes in like, what the hell is that?
Oh my God. Just, no, it's, it's too ridiculous. It's super fun. Anyways, so you go, I'm sure, we'll, it'll get to where it's going eventually. Batman Off World, I haven't, I haven't looked at this one at all, but the the premise is interesting. It's early Batman. Mm-Hmm. . And he's going off world to to he has some, he has a specific purpose on, on going off World.
We, we don't issue one hasn't come out yet. So we don't know a lot about that one, so you don't dunno what the setup is, but yeah. Jason, Aaron, Doug Manky on the art. I quite like him. He's, he's very good for money. So we'll see. Cosmic Batman feels weird to me, but, okay. Yeah. You know, mix it up. That's fine.
Try see, see how he goes. BAtman and Robin, both the book and the annual, I quite like it. I have been enjoying it. I, it's nice to [00:17:00] see a Batman and Robin book where it's just, they're actually a team and it's some nice banter and, you know, not once again, not Damien trying to kill Batman every other, no, no.
Or, or as is, as is the case. Currently Batman, you know, going out of his way to once again ostracize himself from the rest of the family. And there you go. Detective Comics, getting it. Haven't read any of them. mIssing out. I know, I know. And I will get there eventually. Revy is such a good Batman writer.
Mm-Hmm. . Yep. He's very good. I liked his stuff on swamp Thing. And I, I, I've read some of the early, some of it is good, but I'm like, probably about almost a year behind, I think. Oh, you're not, you might not be to the really good. You got Super Ari. He introduced some like, Gotham Historic characters like that we hadn't seen before.
It's interesting. Okay. Batman. Brave in the Bold. Number nine. Very excited about this because it's the final part [00:18:00] of, um, 'cause it's a it's an anthology book. The final part of the winning card, which is Tom King's, um, version of the first time that Batman met the Joker. Oh. And that story has just been
A lot of chilling fun. Okay. I mean, it's, it's, I I'm digging it big time, but it's, it's Tom King, so it's not, the characters aren't quite how you remember them to be and the Joker does some things that I thought. There's a, there's a whole sequence in a Porta-potty that I was like, well, we, you think the Joker is insane?
But I would never have thought he would do this. But but it's been, I've really enjoyed it. I I'm, I'm totally digging that. So Nice. Yeah. I'm gonna get the trade on the collection of that as well. 'cause no disrespect to the other creators in that book, but [00:19:00] that's, that's one I've been enjoying. Here's Your Night Wing.
Here's my night Wing Bloody cat name. Hey, it, it, it's just a fun book and it's been a fun book most of. Tom Taylor's run. Oh yeah, no, definitely. No, I'm enjoying that too. I like that. Travis Moore variant where I guess Damien is asleep. So Dick Grayson has been drawing Cat Whiskers on his face. Oh, I I mean, I, I'm, I'm, I'll be getting that one.
I, I'm probably gonna get Yeah, both those covers. Just, just a habit, man. Mm-Hmm. . Let's see. Count 1 61. She's still going strong. Which is good. Ooh, Harley has an Oma.
wHy not? Yeah. Beat BP Harley Tron Triple six Reporting for duty. . She's a card. Clever.
They didn't spell it. They didn't spell duty. DUTY. They spelled it the other way. Oh. mm-Hmm.[00:20:00]
This is a Chandler Bing joke in there somewhere. Rest in Peace Port. Have you read any of this Penguin Mix series? Yes. Loving it. Okay. Absolutely. Digging it. Feel I'm not contributing much 'cause there's a lot of this. I'm just not, now we're getting ready to get to World's Finest. I can, I can I have a opinion on that.
We'll talk the finest. I'll take a back step on. Okay. Because, we'll, I'm still not caught up. I'm way, way, way behind. Ja. I, I got Ja, I got Jason to thank for getting pulled in. Cooking in the World's Finest. Yes, it is. It is the first book, well, now Night Wings my first book to read, but it's, it's there with it.
Well, just very quickly, outsiders, I'm gonna get the first issue. Mm-Hmm. . But we'll see. And Superman lost . I've, I've been enjoying that. Yeah. I've missed out on that. It's actually been a very interesting Superman story. And there you go. So right. Have at it. Ladd's World's finest. [00:21:00] World's finest. Go ahead.
Well, I'm, once again, I enjoy most everything. Mark Wade writes, Mm-Hmm. . And, you know, I like that he's not one of these creators that can find a way to nod to the history of the character, but taken a different way and, and I'll said over and over again when issue one came out, I got it thumbed through and just thought it was another retelling of their early days, which is what mark's very good at doing.
Mm-Hmm. . But then when it starts tying into Kingdom Come and, and kind of in the, you know, in creeping in the seams here and there, that's been very enjoyable. Because there, there's almost a, the way I read it is there's almost a possibility that while this is Batman and Superman. Dealing with some of the kingdom come storylines.
There's a chance that if they do something one way or the other, they could avoid all of that. And maybe this is a whole, maybe it's a separate universe onto Kingdom come. I, I love when Robin and Supergirl are in the book. [00:22:00] That's hilarious to me because Robin just keeps, he either wants to ask around on a date, doesn't know how to act, and Bruce is giving him a hard time about that sometimes and that, that's, that's a lot of fun.
And Well, the first ark actually dropped him in the wrong timeline. Yeah, yeah. He is, he is running around dinosaurs and you know, when you're, when you're in Speedos and leotards I don't care what your bat belt's got on you, that's gonna rattle you some. I'm gonna ask Jason, do you read the Teen Titans World's final, the one that Mark Wade's writing?
I've not read it yet because, 'cause I'm curious if that's supposed to be in this universe. It is or not. It is because they've made some references, but then they've. Miss that they've done other things that make me not sure, but wage writing it, I'll keep up with it. I was a little late to the party, but I I can say I, I enjoy it quite a bit.
It, it's, it's also nice to have that, that book set with characters that don't necessarily have to be involved in DC News, Dawn, and feels just familiar enough to be right, what you liked as, as a young Ladd, but [00:23:00] might be going in a different direction too. So yeah. Mark Wade is 'cause I, I'm, I'm behind on World's Finest, but I've been reading his Shazam and that's actually just been a lot of fun.
He's got, he's got that one down too. Yeah. Super fun. And that's it. Welcome back, mark. Mm-Hmm. . Yes. And, and you know, it's nice that I like, I, I like the fact, one of the things I'm digging about DC at the moment is I like that there's. A lot of different tones. So if you want your grooming gritty, there's something there for you.
If you want it light and funny, there's something there for you if you want that nostalgic, bent, et cetera, et cetera. So on Superman, 10, I am very much looking forward to seeing that Lee Bejo cover variant cover in a larger size. 'cause he's a great artist and that looks super fun. But yeah.
Superman in the Old West, the A cover looks cool. Yep. Superman all cowboyed up. Mm-Hmm. [00:24:00] good. Notice he doesn't have any, he has a gun belt, but no guns. Yep. Quite right, right way. He can keep his quart of milk. Right, exactly. He needs to pull off that. Yeah. So that's good. And more of the Marilyn Moonlight, who, some people don't seem to like that character.
I don't think we know enough about it to make a decision yet. I think it's, I like the enigmatic news. Enigmatic. There we go. That's a word. Enigmatic ness. That's not a word that you like. The enigma. Look at this guy. He wins. There we go. A toilet paper of the word of the day. There you go. It should work for you every time he wins.
Wonder Woman number five. Well, we did a show about Wonder Woman number one. I'm totally there. I'm invested. I wanna see where all this goes. Have you read any As what, what else has come out? I'm not subbed to Wonder Woman. So that's one and two. Just one and two. One and two. Actually, the second issue was a little bit disappointing because a big chunk of it [00:25:00] is a preview for Amazon's attack.
I was like, oh, come on guys, this is issue two, but fair enough. It all ties in. So, and I wasn't gonna get Amazon's t but I got the first issue and they put Mary Marvel in there. So I. I'm like, okay. Sold. Sold. I'm a fan of all the, the Shazam Lee as Mark Wade has come to call them. I quite like the Shazam Lee.
I like that. This flash is getting weird. Yes. Yeah. But, but I'm enjoying it. So I've read both. Mm-Hmm. issue one and issue two. Haha. I feel like Barry's causing the problem
because of the way it ended. Mm. He's talking to Iris and it almost feels like, whatever this, I feel like Walter Wall's in an alternate reality because every time he deals with Linda, her faces blurred in, blacked out, and he's having an unusual relationship [00:26:00] problem with him. And these guys, you know, come in talking about the speed force and how he doesn't understand all of it, but.
Barry seems to be having the same and saying like, maybe he created the speed, whatever speed bubble or something that might be trapped in. That's just me by issue five. We'll know if I'm right or not. 'cause that'll be almost to the end. But it is an interesting take 'cause it's, is it a horror book? Is it?
Mm-Hmm. suspense book. It's I didn't read the second one. The first one feels like, it felt immortal Huy to me. Mm-Hmm. . It's like immortal flash. Yeah. Okay. I'm with you. Speed. Force one hasn't come out yet, so we don't know about three. Dunno about that. I probably won't, won't do that. Green Lanin.
Yeah, definitely. I like have you been reading it? Mm-Hmm. ? Yeah. Yeah, I read it clearly. You read it? Yeah. I, I, I read it. I'm, I'm encouraged that Sinestro is in his proper outfit. Mm-Hmm. . I'm curious if you know what the hoodies look. Well, you know, I'm, I'm curious if he has discovered how to get a ring The way Hal's ring is.
Being [00:27:00] presented at this time because yeah, I'm a big fan of that. I'm not a fan of that either, but if they're quarantined off the planet, I get How long is this? And you know, there's Kwa, KWA didn't have his ring, and so if this cover is accurate, ki w's off there to the side. So it looks like he's got a ring there.
Yeah. So maybe he's either he's o ob wand it and taught them all how to do this, or we've, I mean, it's issue seven. So first six issue art could be resolved. But I'm, it is interesting. It's not as fun as other Greenland, it's, it's not as fun as other Green Lander takes, but, um, you know, hard luck how is always a little funny.
Yeah. We, and, and this last issue, his interaction with Estro, I mean, I go back to the podcast we did and listening, Steven was talking about, I. tro going, Hey, this guy beat me, what the hell? And it kind of that reverberated, and I don't know if the author has a store bugged and stole that idea, give you his money, but you could feel that [00:28:00] when doing Estro was like, Hey, what's up?
Are you really gonna try to do that with me? They say, you know, that never worked. So there was a, that prior conversation resonated with me. I know you've been a fan of War War Journal. I'm, I'm enjoying it very much. I'm a little confused by it, so I know I gotta read it again. Yeah. I picked up number one based on your recommendation.
Yeah. I'm not a John Stewart guy, so I picked up just 'cause of you. Well, I, I'm digging it because I like Green Lantern. I like the premise of Green Lantern. And it's a premise that I think lends itself to lots of different. It kind of takes, so you've got Green Lan in the main book where we don't really know where that one's going, but it, it does have a lighthearted beat to it.
Whereas War Journal, you know, it's not like Punisher and punish a war journal, whereas it ostensibly you get the same book, just one's in the van, one's Punisher [00:29:00] on foot. Yeah, exactly. The Van . So microchip have, have you guys been reading Green Arrow at all? Yes. So I got the first issue and he was trapped off world.
Yeah, but I kind of want to go back now because. I've become a big Josh Williamson fan with Superman. Right. And I'm thinking maybe he's as good. Is he as good on ? I'm enjoying it. I, I'm definitely enjoying it. And, and clearly, uh, the kids are too, because this was supposed to be a six issue miniseries and now it's a 12 ish issue, maxi series, and maybe it'll keep going.
I mean, that's kind of what happened with Wilson's Willow Wilson's poison Ivy. It was only supposed to be six issues, and now we're in, what is she, 17, 18, something like that. That's brilliant. So yeah, but it's fun. I'm enjoying it. And Ollie Oliver Queen is character near and dear to my heart.
And when he's written, when he sounds like, I think [00:30:00] he's supposed to sound in my head. Oh, I love it. Absolutely love it. And, and I give Joshua Williams some props. He does sound. Like Oliver Queens, lemme tell you. Who does he sound like? Because I now have a I have a particular voice too. No, it's not, it's not how the voice sounds.
No, no, no. But I mean, the, the, the tone, what he says his, he's a condescending, smart ass with the heart of gold. He's the, he would like in this modern media age, Oliver Queen would be like on every, he'd be a regular on Fox News, just so that he could sit there and be the contrary point of view. Ah.
And you know, he's got that very, uh, let me tell you what I think kind of a thing. He doesn't, he doesn't pull any punches. He doesn't hold the, it's self-censorship. It's not there, you know, and he's a very passionate guy. I mean, so yeah, I've always enjoyed Oliver Queen, [00:31:00] and it was not until I watched the
Justice League animated cartoon. Right. When he has been horn swed into the league. Yes. And he has a line where he's arguing some higher point goes, look, I I, I don't know. I'm an old lefty. I'm an old lefty. Yeah. If the government can't do for the people Yeah. That, that, that is, that every time I, I don't have a particular actor, but just that No, but that, yeah.
I go with you on that one. Yes. That's, it's very tired. And, and, but, but at the same time, push him. And, and that's why I enjoyed the Stephen and Mel Arrow because it brought another time. Anytime you can get non-com book fans to watch a show they don't know as a comic book. Yes. And it gains popularity.
That's fun. Yes. But that was more Batman Arrow Yes. Than my hard, hard traveling heroes, but Exactly. So when you said that, I just wanted to touch on Yep, yep. Are we getting close to an hour? No. Oh, I saw, I'm looking at the time.
Okay. Golden Age. You guys wanna talk [00:32:00] Golden Age for a minute? Sure, sure. Very quickly. Power Girl, please get it together. Power. Power. Oh God. You're not gonna hold me for much from that. That's not my power girl. No, but yet another cat story. God's like, come on, this is not cat. Where's the sassiness? Where's the chutzpah?
Our, our, our, once again, my darling of YouTube, Sasha did another plug for your show Babe. Did another Power Girl episode where this super girl special sounded that power Girl sounded more like she should than, than this issue. And I was like, you're absolutely right. It's still not 100% right. No. But if I had to pick my power girl, it would've been from this super girl special.
But that's No, no, no. She's Karen Star gambit. She's not. Oh, you know, I'm never been a big power girl person. I've always. It felt like she was a poor man. Supergirl. Well, she was from Earth too, so. Yeah. Yeah. She was, she was. That was, but that was kind of part of the fun is because [00:33:00] all the things that they couldn't do with Supergirl.
Yeah. They could, they could do with her power girl. That's true. So she could be angrier, she could be more pushy. Shavey, she could be, you know. Yeah. Chick. And what's again, the JLE. Yeah. Run with Keith Giffen. All of that was great. That was Bar Sears. Yeah. Bar, yeah. Bar Sears. Oh, that's, ah, I know, right there.
There you go. Golden age. Hmm. Well, I'm, I'm en enjoying it. I mean, I, I like the variety. I, they're all strongly written books so far. I mean, I'm, I'm, I'm quite dicking it. I was pleasantly surprised with Sandman. 'cause at this point we're talking about Sandman four, but Sandman one has come out. Time of recording.
I like that . Two's out. I didn't get it. It's over there. I got kicked John in the head. Sorry, did I get on the tape? God damnit, [00:34:00] I think number two is out. I dunno. I may, I may be wrong. Don't, don't quote me on no. Number one. I like that they, they had some nods to the Matt Wagner series. Yes.
You saw it in flashbacks. Yes. And while I'm still trying to love the art, the story still has that new R mm-Hmm. . And I like the naivety that Wess has of, oh, I've invented all these gases. The military is gonna love this. And the military's like, why would we want a thousand sleeping guys on the, what am I gonna, how am I gonna feed him?
What am I gonna do? I'd rather just kill him. That's right. Yep. And to have him that, to shake his world, I was like, that is, that is a lot of fun. Mm-Hmm. . I'm a little, I've read the Golden Age flash three times. Okay. And . I love j Garrett. Yeah. They've gotta do a little bit more for me to care about this girl.
I'll be honest. Okay. I'm not a fan of disappearing kids and coming back kids and, you know, it, it feels shoehorned in, [00:35:00] uh, they've, they've, they've come up with a way why it happened. Sort of. Did you read the Jeff John Star girl? Yeah. Yeah. I haven't read that. I've got it. I, I read all that and they have all their reasonings.
Okay. Which is his cute and sweet. But it, to me it's almo. It's, it's, it's almost like, oh, by the way, they had a Butler name. Joe Bob. Jimmy Bob. And we've never remembered him. And now, now he's back and, you know, you remember the Christmas tree that got decorated? Well, he was doing that before he disappeared.
You don't remember Joe Bob? Jimmy Bob? I, I don't remember him. I, I mean, I don't, um, now Scott Green Lantern. I know it'll be a, a controversial topic with some people because of which way they've . Pointed his personal life. I kind of enjoy, I enjoyed the first issue more than I thought. I really do enjoy the Jay Agar Hoover.
Yeah. Because that's exactly what, and I'm gonna say this this way, kids and y'all look it up how Jay Edna used to do things back in the day. . Y'all go, y'all go find out why he was called that because [00:36:00] that makes this book even more entertaining in, in a historical way. Right? It's like Steve Rogers fighting the boom in New York.
wHat I really hope is not a heavy tone on this
is I don't need a long, drawn out story about every facet of his personal life, right? But I like the idea of a gay man in World War ii. Mm-Hmm. having to hide who he is. Mm-Hmm. , even though I was never part of the character. Right. You know, it, it go, I, I, I think that's an interesting story, but I'm also glad it's only four issues because.
The longer you do this, the long, longer, someone's gonna get it wrong, in my humble opinion. Right. No, that's, I think that's a fair because if this is a powerful story you want to convey, I couldn't write it because I have no point of reference Right to it, but so far they've, they've held my interest more than I thought.
Please don't shoot me. No, no, no, no. [00:37:00] I agree with you. It's, it's, it's an interesting bunch. Just as Society of America, I, I gotta be honest, I, I don't think it really matters one bit what I think or what I say. Come on, kids. Look at that. Tony Harris, Harris Harris variant cover. And thank God it's, it's not the variant anymore.
It's the B cover. Yeah. Well that's, so, that's, I'm so happy because I'm, I, now I can get all four of 'em. Yeah. I mean, that is gorgeous. And Liberty Bell is there. Yeah, I'm like, I'm, I'm happy. You know, it's, look, you shouldn't be buying books for the covers. You should be buying them for the content. Well, we'll happily sell you both covers.
Please, please come by and see us. Anytime Terry Dotson does a cover, we'll sell it to you kids. It's Adam Hughes. Adam Hughes. Oh yeah. Keep going. I wanna, okay. Open the wall. Let's see. Is this Dr. Fa in the Spectrum? Yeah. So which one are you looking at? DC Power 2024. Just looking at the cover, that's a that's a[00:38:00] fast forward to the far Sector Green Lantern, ah, person.
It's like a, it's like a postscript to to that story, which was very good. I don't know if you read Far Sector, but I, I thoroughly enjoyed that. NK Jemison, I think. Yeah, that was a lot of fun. . I, I guess the, the these anthology books that DC have been doing, they've done spotlighting black characters.
They've done their pride ones. I think they did one about, oh, it didn't even dawn on me. They, they're all black characters. , yes. That's it. And that's the way it should be . Exactly. Quite right. Okay. That makes sense. So I, it's, it's interesting, I've, I've picked them up. It's, it's kind of, it's nice to get the immersiveness of perspectives that, that could not, and should not, and would not be mine [00:39:00] because I don't fall into that group demographic, whatever you wanna call it.
So, and, and I've enjoyed them and I'm definitely picking this one up because of the . The, the far sector, um, bit there with the, with the creative team Jamal Campbell and NNK Jemison. Definitely, definitely, definitely. What's hard with these books is it's hard to judge the audience in your order.
Sure. Oh gosh. Yeah, absolutely. So, because I think that, I think this one might do okay because of Far Sector, but I don't know that we'll go too high over, you know, well, orders. It's a, it's a $10 book. Yeah, it, it is, it is a $10 book. And so kids come by too, right? There you go. And it's, we'll have a few, it's a, it's a difficult thing because, you know, we just, you have to recognize [00:40:00] that because it's a $10 book, because it's
I don't wanna say niche, but it's, there's a specific, it's a specific appeal. It's a specific appeal, which is a shame because there can be absolutely cracking good stuff in there. But I, I don't know. I'm looking forward to it. That's all I can say. The next one has a great title. Yes. Oh God. This is DC's, how to Lose a Guy, Gardner, in 10 days.
Do you see what he is doing with his hands? Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Making a heart. Yeah. That's just out. I Outstanding. Yeah. So this, this looks like a reprint book in the in the same vein as s swimsuit issue. No, no. This is a, it's not, no, it's, it's a val. It's a Valentine's Day. Yeah, they do These DC had been doing these prestige format.
Just like that DC power, these kind of holiday specials. They'll do one Valentine's Day, [00:41:00] because this is, this is slated February 6th, so that's where I ran Valentine's. Yeah, Valentine's Day. Had a spring one. They did a spring one this year. thEy usually do a summer one. There's a, there's a Halloween one and a Christmas one.
So, and they've been fun. One of the earlier ones that they did was it was all about, it was a Valentine's one, but it was all about like DC monsters, like Frankenstein and stuff. That's actually kind of, that was a lot of fun. But there's Amanda Connor doing what she does best, drawing people with very, very amusing facial expressions.
Expressions. She's, yeah, she's up. She, so there's her. Kevin McGuire, I think are the two top of the game for those. That'd be, he would be a great b cover for this. Yeah. The, the expressions, those two are, they're so good at that. I like the one in 25 variant. That's very sweet. Yeah. Yeah. Million. What is that million?
Yeah, again, $10 book. [00:42:00] We'll see. Well, we probably won't have 25 copies of that, so. That's right. Unfortunately, probably won't get that. Vari won't, we won't get that variant, but that's, somebody orders it. But you can special order it and we'll sell it. You'll pay for it. We'll, we'll get it for you.
Absolutely. All right. Let's see. Let's speed through. Next couple sections, see if there's anything that's of interest here. We have another Power Girl. They're doing Power Girl Uncovered with a Frank Cho cover. I don't care what the story is, but I'll yeah. And, and the Hell Hellblazer special. Well, you've got me interested in when our last discussion about going back and reading some Ma Garth Innis Mm-Hmm.
Run on that because once again sets a low sum character that yeah, it's it's good up it's good upbeat stuff to read around the holidays. Oh, absolutely. And, and speaking of timely holiday books, nice to see the night terrors trades are gonna be landing in the Oh, so perfect February. I know. [00:43:00] Could they have messed up the timing on this thing anymore?
I don't, there's so there's a couple of absolutes. There's this absolute Batman and Son Grant Morrison. Yeah. That's interesting. And then there's another one, where was that other absolute. Oh, I'm sure I'll run into it. And then the other one that I thought was interesting, oh page 36, Superman, Lois and Clark Doom Rising, picking up where Superman, Lois and Clark left off.
Interesting. Now Judge, now that CH been canceled. Yeah. The Lois and Clark show, they get one more season to wrap up and they're done. This isn't the TV show, this is the oh, that's that This is continuing Djo and stuff. The convergence, yeah. And then, oh, okay. Yeah. Which, if you were paying attention at the time, new 52.
Superman died this Superman, who was our post-crisis. Superman. Right. Took his place [00:44:00] post Flashpoint. Point. Flashpoint, yes. Okay. So he took, he took the place. Batman was very distrustful for him and then Rebirth. Hit again. And then all of that just was not a jelled, not a thing. But yes, I, I actually like this.
I have this series. I like that. Mm-Hmm. , I mistakenly thought it was the first time they interviewed, introduced John Kent. So I was very excited and then found out I was right completely wrong as I was trying to pay the mortgage with that issue. But nah, it's all good. It's all good. We've got some more Webtoon books coming.
My youngest daughter is a huge fan of Wayne Family Adventures. She, she gave me volume one to read. I'm about halfway through it. It's actually kind of funny. It's kind of cute. Yeah. lEt's see. Ah, okay. The little endless storybooks. That's super fun. I remember they're, they're collecting them.
Oh, okay. And Jill Thompson. That's if, if you're a Sandman fan, you've gotta get it. And if you kind [00:45:00] of just like . This sort of humor, uh, or salmon characters with a bit of humor that it's, it's well worth it. There's your other absolute final crisis. Yeah. Oh geez. Well, we asked for it last time and only if they include the map.
Only if, yeah, I know. Can we have the map please? Only if they include the map. But if you look, what you're actually getting is final crisis one through seven, Batman 6 82 and 6 83 Final Crisis, Superman, beyond one and two. You need Superman beyond one and two. That, that, that is a real tie into the story.
That's, so that's actually a pretty good mix. I'm kind of tempted. I might, I need to find out when final order cutoff is so that I don't Oh, it comes out in June, so I've probably got if, and maybe Final Crisis Sketchbook will have the map in it. Oh, no. I bet you it [00:46:00] does. Oh, wouldn't that be fun? I want Yes, we need the map.
We do need the map. We need Morrison's map. Alright, I'm good for the rest. So you guys have any more? No, I think we are I bunch of trades. Nothing's really leaping out, although my esteemed colleague is pointing at JLA book one. I might finally get around to reading, dancing. Grant Morrison run. Yeah, there you go.
Right. Where's you next? All right. After Marvel. Okay. Let May just do the the big guys. We'll see, I just, I don't have a stake in this game. I'm, I'm, I'm so sorry, but I just don't Well, I'm interested in Avengers. Twilight. See what Chip does with captain America. Is that Daniel? It is a Kula. A Kuna.
Kuna. I do like his art. I mean, it's a story that's been done before. Tired of tire. Tired of Captain America. What? You know what Iffy thing. [00:47:00] Then we got the X-Men moving into the back half of, I guess, cocoa. We did Cola did, did did that, did that lose you? Did the X-Men lose you? Yeah, it did. I know we did a whole podcast and I was so excited.
And then it was like, and then we got preview pages here. The fall of X. Well, I think we missed the very first thing, which is Ultimate Spidey. Oh, by Jonathan Hickman. Jonathan Hickman. What do we, what do you think he's gonna do with that thing? I don't, I don't know. I think he's just gonna redo it. We need a map.
Yeah. Can we, can, can we bring Grant Morrison into God? I've read, you know, I've read The Ultimate, the Ultimates and then the Ultimate Avengers, or this new Avenger. The one, the, and, and to me, he's kind of going for the shock value. Mm-Hmm. a little more than what? Definitely what Bendis Bendis felt very thought out.
Like, Hey, we're gonna take the original origin. Mm-Hmm. and kinda just modernize it. This is, you know, not bad, but it hasn't grabbed me [00:48:00] like I hope, I mean, I love hit's art. I love, I love Brian's art. But see for me, the, the fun of Ultimate Spider-Man was that Bendis, peter Parker. Yeah. Aw, shucks. Yeah.
Kind of taking the time and I don't know what this is gonna be. Don't either. Well, I tell you what I think it's gonna be. What do you think? I think it's gonna be Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. Well, that either to show the kids, and they've said that this is like, without One more day. Without one more day.
So this is kind of a, I might fall in love with it then. Wouldn't it be funny if that became the Go-to Spider-Man book for everyone? And, and I'm sorry, I, I'm sorry. The previews for Fall of XI love that Cyclops is in his you know, Dave Cl Yeah. John Byrne costume. But I will say they need to they need to get to wherever they're going with all of this fast.
Yeah. They really do. This, I don't, yeah. I, I like, [00:49:00] I like how they've titled this like the house and Powers back. Mm-Hmm. . I do like that. And Kieran Gillen and Jerry Dugan. Mm-Hmm. both. Excellent. I'm, I've been a fan of what they did with whatever her name is, pride. Now, like we, I don't, I don't know if you Kit Pride or She's, well, no, she was Catherine or Kate, she was something else for a minute.
Oh. Well she, yeah, she's, but now she's Shadow Cat, like she's shadow cat. Full out Ninja. Yeah. Yeah. She's doing all the I can, I mean, that, that is interesting where, you know, she can phase or sword and pull people. And I've skipped ahead. I'm sorry. This is, I I'm gonna, I'm gonna get this, that, I'm gonna get that the, the power pack into the storm.
It's got the original creative team on it. Yep. I, I will read that. Yes. For no other reason. It falls back to that hope I feel the same way I did the first time. Yes. I picked it up. I absolutely. And I. I, I, I remember picking up the first issue of [00:50:00] Power Pack, um, and I, I loved it and I got the first few issues.
I kind of dipped in and out. And then, you know, there was the mute mask thing that kind of, you know, um, but no, I love it. And my, my middle girl my middle child dma, she's she actually has the Marvel Press poster that Jim Brigman did back in the eighties. It's framed on her bedroom. All it has been since she was little.
And in her sketchbook, uh, we, we got an opportunity to meet Ms. Brigman and she did a, a Caden power sketch in a book. That's sweet. And she was the sweetest, sweetest lady, and it just, my, my little girl's face just lit up and so No. Absolutely. I'm I'll, I'll be buying that for sure. So Scott, are you reading amazing Spider-Man right now?
Yes. Okay. So right before [00:51:00] the Power pack 28, the gang war? Yeah, the, well, there's a bunch of gang war stuff, so all the street level gang war stuff is going down. Mm-Hmm. . Yep. And all the Spidey books are in there. Ms. Marvel's in there, uh, spidery Woman, kid Venom. Yeah. That's not a gang war though. But then there's on it's page 28, jackpot number one, which is Mary Jane.
Yeah. Is this an origin or where did she show up? She's been, she's jackpot throughout the new Well, she's had the, the power. Yeah, she got the power. . ' cause of that dimension. Yeah. She was in earlier and I think this has something to do with Black Cat, help her realize this or something. 'cause it did, you know, one of those books where they had their adventures together?
Yeah. Jackpot also was in the brand new day thing. It wasn't, I don't think it was Mary Jane though, but they, but everyone thought it was 'cause she looked like her and said, and Jackpot, come on, [00:52:00] um, pass you're out. Well, and, and like, I'm even looking at the, and and this is the old grumpy man in me, the Spider-Man.
29 9. If Peter David's not riding it, I don't pass. I I, I have no interest in it. I kind of like this number two of five with like the Moon Knight 29 9 sounds interesting. Yeah. There, there are some, the, the 29 9 universe is very interesting. It's just. When Peter, David's not a part of the Spider-Man thing.
I'm just kind of, yeah. But I do end up thumbing through him at the shop. Ravage. It looks like he, they're doing like all the universal monsters. Yeah. So they've got like a Frankenstein. Oh yeah. Dracula. Future Dracula. Here's werewolf over here. That's, that's topical for, let's see. Christmas. Yeah. Yeah. . I do like Nick Haw.
He's, he's, he, he's kind of, yeah. I, I like, I like to [00:53:00] see his covers and I like that Todd Knox getting to do the connecting cover. 'cause I've always been a, since Young Justice, I've been a fan of his. I like to see him get work. Yep. Have you read this God's book by Hickman? No. No, no. I read he didn't look at that at all.
I want to, I read the first one and it is, it is very fascinating. But it is Hickman. It's another I need a map. He, he's got a very interesting idea about what to do with the mystic side of the Marvel universe. And I'm, I'm, I'm, it's curious to let him play with that because he, you know, he is also playing with the ultimate, the ultimate universe.
There's a part of me that thinks the two are gonna kind of cross pollinate or something, but I, I have no real evidence for that. I'm curious about it. I, I I forgot about it. I knew it was coming, but I forgot. So I'm curious about it. I'll go back and do that. Okay. We're getting closer in the Punisher man thing.
2099. Enough said. Yeah. Spider Boy,[00:54:00] Thunderbolt. I mean, regrettably, it's a cover by Terry Dotson, so I may pick up the cover. No they sell, they sell a picture or poster. Marvel Meow. Good lord. John's gonna order for the, oh. I don't, don't, but even jest, I'm not, I'm not jesting that. I know you're not.
I see it right here. The fact he doesn't listen to the podcast, he can't come and try to stab me. Oh, he doesn't listen to podcast. I'm sure. I'm sure. No, I mean, I'm sure he doesn't. But, um, kind of interested in this Punisher and I'm more, I'm more wondering how they're gonna bring Frank back. It's great to have an agent.
Well, I mean, they brought Bucky back, so Yeah, but how long was that? World War ii, let me just drop Saber-Tooth War WW Wolverine 41 Saber-Tooth War begins here. The most violent Wolverine story ever told. Now look, that's saying something. Come on. I mean, [00:55:00] really wasn't there like the was it, what was the ultimate book where he was ripped in half Wolverine In the Hulk?
Yeah. He's ripped in half one crawl up the, another mountain and he's having to crawl, like to find his torso. That seems pretty violent. It does, yeah. Little hyperbole. Marvel might be using hyperbole. Just maybe. Yeah, just, just maybe I want my comic books believable. Oh, Jeff, we're in the wrong publisher. Marvel's superhero's.
Secret Wars Battle World. Alright, kids try saying that one three times real fast. No, don't, don't. And Tom Def Falco writing it. I mean, I guess I brought him outta retirement or.
The facsimile will skip those. Yeah. The facsimile editions are still going strong. We, we do actually, from what I understand, you actually sell some of those, so that's, yeah, it's interesting. It's kind of crazy. I guess it's if you've got a complete collection [00:56:00] and you're like, oh, I'm never gonna be able to buy a copy of Amazing Spider-Man, 2 52.
I mean, geez. Oh, I could get the facsimile and that way at least I'm plugging the hole. Yeah, I could see that. I said, or also see, I don't have the trade paper back and I don't wanna read it, take it outta the bag. So maybe I buy this facsimile and I'll just, you know, drop my liquor on it. And very true.
So we had DC Power, which now we have now we have Marvel Voices. So this it just cut, it's there. Black History Month. It's Black History Month, isn't it? Yes, of course. It's February. Yeah, it's their black history in my book. Okay. Okay. The marketing Right itself comes out on probably the 30th, say January 30th.
Yeah, DC Power comes out January 30th and Marvel Voices Legends comes out. Well, I don't know 'cause it doesn't sound that page presumably. I'm gonna say it's probably then probably close to then. Yeah, I would say so too. That's safe. Bet. You've got photon, you've got Falcon, [00:57:00] you've got oh, I can't think of his name.
It's not the Captain America from young Justice. Young. No, not Young Avengers. Young Avengers. Yeah. What's his name though? It's Patriot or Patriot. Well, that it is Patriot. It's Patriot. Yeah. It's Patriot. It's Alter identity was Isaac's grandson. He's, yeah, that's right. Venom. Wolverine. Wolverine.
Wolverine. Variant cover. Oh boy. Okay. Avengers, captain Marvel. hEre we are, captain America, number five. Excellent.
Young Stibo is, did you fall off the bandwagon already on? I'm not seeing anymore. You're not? Yep. Oh, yeah. I haven't read, I haven't picked up. Number two, I'm a little behind. I might pick that up when it hits the trades. I enjoyed. Number two. I enjoy, it's not a reflection, I just, you know, sometimes you, you look at your budget and you look at the books ahead of you and you just go, I'm gonna have to make some tough decisions.
So if it's a real Sophie's choice moment, oh, isn't, or just [00:58:00] downgrade your internet.
Sensational. She Hulk. Let's hope the sensational. Picks it up, picks it up a bit. Love the character, but kind of like Power Girl. I'm just not, not, wasn't feeling it. So that wasn't, that wasn't too hard a decision to pull the plug on. Incredible. Hulk Mortal four. Have you read any immortal? Th I read the first issue and was like, well, I'm sure it'll be all right, but I just, I dunno, blade.
Now actually, if there's one book that I kind of, one of the book that I might might go back to sneakily, I won't tell anyone, might do Camps of America on the Sly Blade. Actually, I got the first two or three issues. I actually really enjoyed it. I tell you what, and I know we're long, y'all are a long way off, but page 88 and 89, it's like they, they wrote that for me.
Oh, I see. Wait, all, see Yeah. I'm, goodness. I'm, I'm still, I'm still [00:59:00] enjoying those fantastic four issues. Mm-Hmm. . Still not bad, but yeah. I'm, I'm, we're getting ready to Yeah, they just wrote that for you. Yeah. , well, that, that, that, that is, that is a quarter of my eighties childhood right there. , very quickly before we get there, alien, that's another one.
I, I, I do like, I'm not a big franchise person, but I Well, well, it sounds like some of these Marvel books are actually calling your name maybe. Could be. Could be. We'll see. But yes. Rom number two, well, they got the first one. They got the first one and the first one's right there. Well, yeah. Two. Oh, right.
Okay. And the micro knots, I mean. Oh wow. Geez, I didn't realize that. Yeah. Written by year. Written by the historically great and underappreciated. Build mantle on. Yes, very much so. Co-creator of Rocket Raccoon. Yeah. And. Other than Larry Hamma, the guy you went to when you, when you were at Marvel and said, look, we got some licensing rights and we need [01:00:00] a backstory.
Yep. Because we want comics and they gotta sell toys and we gotta figure out how to make this space guy that's got no joints on the toy relatable to the kids. You know, we've got no elbow joints and no leg joints. How does that Marvel? Were pretty good at that back in the day. That, that, that was the highlights in the eighties.
That was alright. See now page 91. You've got Captain America by Mark Grunwald, omnibus with that Oso famous. Mike, Zack, Mike, Zack, cover Wolverine. You skipped over the Fantastic four. Alex Ross. Yeah, that sound like the Fanta. I'm, I'm still enjoying the Fantastic four. This out, this the cover for number 15, is the brain floating in the area?
Yeah. And the neon colors and the reflections on their costumes. That is insane. That's a Oh yeah. Great. Oh, no, it's, he, he's, he's brilliant. I mean, I, I really dig the, the doc strange covers as well. I, I, it looks like he's having a lot of fun with them too. And, and as we're talking about properties, Marvel does [01:01:00] well for the Star Wars fan.
Another, yeah, that's true. Along this next run in Theron Universe, which is Co-written co-written by Timothy Za, his creator. Oh, he always, I did not notice that he brings it. He always, well, he just has the voice of the character right on the money that there's, when, when you're dealing with th throne, there's a certain intellect and a certain menace that comes.
The character that can outthink everybody in the room. And I'm always happy to see him involved in that.
Let's see. We're in Omnibus Land here a little bit. My God, we've got a lot of them. Bernard Casey, Hulk and Bagley on Spider-Man, C 95. The Garth has er Yeah, they got, they got New Warriors back when New Warriors was fun. Yep. Speedball, speedball. I. I, I, look, I think the omnibuses are great. [01:02:00] I mean, I, I, I've got a bunch of them.
I mean, I do. And even though they are difficult to read they're great for killing snakes. They're excellent for killing snakes. But it does seem a bit top heavy because you've got, you've got quite a few coming out. I kind of, I dunno, maybe that's just me. Are you being a curmudgeon? Ever so slightly Marvel Masterworks, they're still churning them out.
I'm waiting for Marvel team up. I'm waiting for the James di years on that. Come on guys. How long do I have to wait? How many letters do I have to write? Okay. Treasury edition, ultimate Invasion, treasury Edition. Treasure. You like treasury editions? Those are fun. I like bit, bit oversized. I like, I like the bigger picture on the app.
I do too. I kind of like that. eIght and a half by 13 mm-Hmm. . Oh, they the ones for the black, white and [01:03:00] reds uhhuh. Those have been a lot of fun. The deadfall moon night carnage and electro. There's a, a Darth Vader one about to come out and this Marvel zombies, I won't bother with the issues, but I bet you they'll do a treasury edition of that.
I might pick that up just 'cause of the art could be fun. Ooh, it's 1 23 Astonishing X-Men. I have the hardcover of this and I've not been able to find it. I went back to reread it the other day. I can't. I think I've, I lent it out to somebody. It's it's not where it belongs on my shelf. I think I gave it to a kid.
I actually, I think one of my kids was going through a Buffy phase. And I gave her, I gave her astonishing expense. Hey, I mentioned earlier that maybe I'll do Captains America in the trades. Well, there you go. Look at that. There you go. It's already solicited. First four issues. There you go. Four issues.
So that's what they're gonna start doing now. Do you know this? Mm-Hmm. They're starting to look, they're going to switch to four issue arcs and trades. Okay, hold [01:04:00] on. Yeah, that's a $20 book. 120 pages, and you're only getting four issues. That's a, that's gonna be a very thin trade. Paperback. Yeah. But that's what they're, that's the look at the next one.
The, the Star Wars one. Yeah. Is one through four also right now? That's a re The next Star War 37 through 41. Yeah. Yeah. They're doing four issue trades now, about six. And they're saying that it's it's a, it's an economically more viable way of doing, even the mini series are going to go from six issues to four issues.
So if you're gonna, if you have a, a miniseries, it's gonna be a four issue miniseries. Because the drop off. When you get to six is no longer vi eco, economically viable. As long as they're telling good stories, then they should have nothing to worry about. Yeah. Well, I don't know. I, I think that feels awful ominous there.
I know. Doesn't it? Trying, was trying to play a little bit, but not too much. [01:05:00] I mean, if they, if they drop the price by, uh, a equal amount, if they drop the price by a third and give you a third less story, that's fine. They did the old thing that, that the the people who make the grape jelly do, where grape jelly used to be, I don't know, 30 ounces now, it's slowly shrunk to 24 or whatever.
Mm-Hmm. . Same price, less product, same price, same great price. That's, that's what they do. That's what they do. Alright. And. I think we'll wrap it at the two big guys. I don't know how we're, I have to, I think we'll have to pull the digital thing for for image. Well, they're kind of going off in their own d that I'm gonna go for.
I will look at that one. Garth Enni, Garth Bond. Bond issue one. Yeah. Yeah. For Dynamite Book. I would definitely look at that. Okay. But yeah, I don't, I don't know if Dark Horse is represented in there. I, I don't know [01:06:00] if image is represented in there. Yeah, I'm not sure. I see Boom is, yeah, boom's got, boom is like their premier PU publisher now.
So there the big story. They have it. Yeah. Who UNK it? It's the last man standing over there. Uhhuh this point. Mm-Hmm. . tHey keep going. It'll be Xeno scope and . That's it. That's all I got. That's all I got. Xeno. They're killing through the alphabet. Oh, man. Rangers all the, all the things that you would expect in this one.
Yeah. I'm not, I didn't see anything highlighted when I when I looked through the gyms. Maybe think, yeah, that's the one. That's what we gotta pick up, so. Well, there you go. DC Marvel 2024. Let's hope for good things. I think they'll do well. I'm pretty happy with where DC [01:07:00] is. I as well Marvel. I actually like the ultimately ultimate invasion thing and Captain America right now.
Yep. Oh no, I, I, I haven't given a lot a try lately. I've just been not reading as much, so, we'll see. Alright, everybody, here's the, here's the trick. If you are one of our peoples, if you order subscriptions through us make sure you go in and special order anything that you want, especially some of the, those special edition issues like the I don't know, the Frank Cho covers or well, no, I was thinking like the, uh, whatever that guy Gardner book was.
Oh, yes, that looks hilarious for Valentine's Day. We won't order a bazillion of them. We'll, we'll have a few and things like that, that, that are coming out the how? Lose a guy, how to lose a guy in 10 days. Yeah. A guy Gardner in 10 days. Yeah. Yeah, it looks super clever. Anyway, things like that, just make sure you go in, place your orders to make sure we're getting plenty of them.
